7 Warehouse KPIs You Can Monitor from Odoo Inventory

For example inventory accuracy, picking accuracy, stock turnover, order fulfillment time, stockout, dead stock, and transfer lead time.

"Our warehouse is better now" sounds reassuring — until someone asks: better than what, and measured how? Without KPIs, warehouse improvement is just an impression. The good news: Odoo Inventory holds enough data to monitor the most important metrics — without extra spreadsheets.

1. Inventory Accuracy

What — the percentage match between system stock and physical stock.

How to measure — from stock opname/cycle count: (matching SKUs/locations ÷ total counted) × 100%.

In Odoo — use Inventory Adjustment and cycle counting (Barcode), then compare variances. A common target is ≥ 98%.

2. Picking Accuracy

What — the percentage of picking lines that are correct (product, location, qty) without correction.

How to measure — (correct lines ÷ total lines) × 100%.

In Odoo — monitor stock moves, backorders, and audit/corrections. Barcodes help reduce wrong picks.

3. Stock Turnover (Inventory Turnover)

What — how fast stock rotates in a period.

How to measure — COGS ÷ average inventory value.

In Odoo — use the Inventory Valuation report and stock moves/sales data to calculate turnover.

4. Order Fulfillment Time

What — the time from order confirmation to the goods actually shipping.

How to measure — the difference between Sales Order confirmed and Delivery done.

In Odoo — look at the dates on the Sale Order and Delivery/Picking; compare with the promised (scheduled) date.

5. Stockout Rate

What — the percentage of demand unmet due to being out of stock.

How to measure — (unfulfilled orders/lines ÷ total demand) × 100%.

In Odoo — monitor forecasted quantity, backorders, and the effectiveness of reordering rules.

6. Dead Stock

What — stock that does not move within a certain period (e.g. 90/180 days).

How to measure — the number/value of SKUs with no outgoing movement for X days.

In Odoo — analyze stock moves (last movement date), stock aging, and inventory value. Dead stock signals overstock or changed demand.

7. Transfer Lead Time

What — the time required to move stock between warehouses/locations.

How to measure — the difference between transfer created/scheduled and transfer received (done).

In Odoo — use Internal Transfers, scheduled/actual dates, and in-transit status to see delays.

How to Monitor All of Them in Odoo

  • Inventory → Reporting — on-hand stock, movements, and valuation.
  • Pivot/Graph — analyze stock moves or deliveries to see trends.
  • Barcode — ensures KPI data is accurate from the transaction itself.
  • Module combination — Sales, Purchase, Inventory, and Accounting give an end-to-end picture.
  • Dashboard — summarize key KPIs in one view (via Odoo spreadsheet/dashboard).

Tips for Meaningful KPIs

  • Start small — choose the 3–5 most relevant KPIs, not everything at once.
  • Set targets — e.g. accuracy ≥ 98%, stockout < 2%.
  • Review regularly — weekly/monthly, not once a year.
  • Link to action — a KPI without action is just a number.
  • Keep data clean — transaction validation & barcodes are the foundation.

Closing

KPIs make warehouse improvement measurable and focused. The seven metrics above — inventory accuracy, picking accuracy, stock turnover, order fulfillment time, stockout, dead stock, and transfer lead time — can all be monitored from data already in Odoo Inventory. Start with the most painful one, measure, improve, then repeat.
